 New member Joy impressed us with her mobius scarf made from Trendsetter in a garter stitch using size 8 and 11 needles! 

Willa and her shawls, she always has a new one to show:  this one is made with Zen 2 ply cashmere patter is "Juno REgina" from Knitty.com 

 Rosie finished a sweater while cruising to Alaska, but I didn't get the dtails, it IS pretty!

Eileen's dashing shrug is also missing details, but it looks great

Sherrill had her Finished February Lady Cardigan and Hat done in

Samoa

, cotton/acrylic, and two other scarves made from the leftover yarn.  Jean Carnes also had her February Lady sweater finished, made in Cascade 220, pink!

Lois showed her Tuxedo Bib, her own design, very cute!    She also had a  Bingo Child’s Sweater made with Vanna’s Own, and a Noro Kureyon Jacket of her own design as well.

 

Rosie Halvorsen displayed her Toddler jacket made of Twilly’s Freedom Organic Cotton, from Twilly’s of

England

, soft as a kitten.

 

Lindy finished off her cotton/spandex socks for her friend Martha, made from Cascade Yarn Fixation.

 From Martha Lyons

 

Bring some worsted weight yarn size 7 or 8 double pointed needles, and a plain sweater or large swatch.  Martha will be giving us advice on how to make our knitted projects better, and also do a bit on embellishments!

Martha has taught at Yarn Lady for several years, and is also now at Sheared Sheep.

 

Afghan Squares!

If you have an additional square or two to add to the piece, please bring them and we will finish up the Afghan.

This will be a 6 hour workshop in Modular Knitting, (Knitting with Squares,

The class will be from 9 – 12 and 1- 4 with a 1 hour lunch break so bringing a sack lunch will be best.

from the north turn Right, go one block and there it is.  There is a pre school as a part of the campus and you literally can't miss it with

the play yard!  The workshop will be in the smaller hall behind the church. There is some offstreet parking available.

Well, I got home and found that the photos were saved on the camera, because I didn’t have a card in it.  But when I tried to get the photos off the camera, I somehow messed up and erased them!  Aghh!!!!  If anyone wants to bring their things again, I’ll retake the photos in April!

If you need to know about tea cozies, your go to person is Rosie Halvorsen!  She made some for her friends from the Tea Cozy Book using scrap yarn.

Jean Carnes showed the start of her Jojoland Swirl Shawl made with melody superwash fingering weight.  Hope to see the finished product this time.

Ann Doty shared her socks made with the Ridgeway pattern from Cat Bordhi using size 1 needles.

Lois Watson shared her short coat made with wool from a joyce Wyatt design, size 8 needles.

Lindy showed her Valour Vest made from Rowan’s Colourscape yarn designed by Kaffe Fassett, pattern designed by Sarah Hatton in the pattern book for the yarn.

President’s note

 

Barbara Taylor has had mother issues, and hasn’t taken over the newsletter.  She was willing to do it this month, but I didn’t get organized!  So May and on will be from Barbara.

 

I’ve been knitting on socks promised to my friends.   I’ve finished two pairs so far, and on the first sock of the third pair!  I think we should organize a sock workshop this summer, I want Gaby to come teach.  I can do it here at my house over a weekend or either two Saturdays in a row.

Let’s make an afghan!  Your instructions are attached.  Use the LARGE square instructions.  Your square must be 12 inches square.  DO NOT BLOCK IT.  You can either do the stripes as indicated, or a solid color, or use a variegated or self striping yarn.  Bring a tapestry needle, and some yarn for sewing!

Charity Knitting for Feb  Helmet liner, beanie hat, or scarf, it is not too late to contribute.  The helmet liner was very easy!  Pattern is attached.  Wool socks, a good book are also appreciated.   All for troops in

Iraq

Afghanistan

.  Remember 100% wool only, in black, gray, tan, dark blue

 Starts On Feb 18. I'm thinking that Wednesday afternoons may work for most people, but Thursday even is a good bet too.
 
What do you think of every other week, Wed on the 18^th at 2 pm, Thurs the 19^th at 6 pm (skip the next week, I'm at stitches!) then Wed 4^th/Thurs on March 5, then back and forth?
 
I'm not sure about the place, but I'm thinking about the library in Aliso Viejo, cafe area.  I'm going to check it out today.  I'll get back to you all before Wed at any rate.
 
You need to get the pattern from www.flintknits.com.  On the right side of the page, scroll down to "Some Stuff I've Made", february lady sweater is about 8th in the list.  Click on it, then print it out.  If you do not have this capacity, at least visit the page, and let me know.  I'll bring a printed copy for you.  A medium needs about 1100 yards, a large needs about 1150-1200 in worsted weight yarn, 3 7/8 inch buttons, a 32 inch size 8 circular needle.
 
If you do your swatch before you show up, you will be ready to start.  You can bring your supplies and your swatch on the 18th nevertheless.

February Meeting Highlights

We had a good showing despite the terrible weather in the afternoon!  I forgot most of my papers at home, so I'll be getting the newsletter out early with attachments for the March meeting!

I wanted to get a photo of my new sweater made for my sister, but Randy dropped the camera as he was trying to focus it, so the broken camera did not get the image!  I'll have Lisa take one tonight.

Here we have Eileen in her fabulous hat designed by a friend, Po Chan, a very fuzzy photo of her purple handbag to be designed by Ella Raye.  Jean Carnes with lots of Rambling Rows, four socks, and a wallaby and hats for her lucky grandchildren all done in Vanna's Choice Acrylic from Tall Mouse.  LInda Apple showed a  baby hat, sweater, booties, and teenie hat made with Red Heart's TLC that showed some unique pooling of colors!   Kathy Glendinning gave us a great handout on Valentine specials, and there are a couple of photos that do not do them justice.  I think I'm glad that camera is broken, I always had problems with it focusing right!
